The Pomsky is a mixed breed dog of the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky. They are very active and playful dogs which has made them popular over the few years. They were names as the most popular dogs of 2017 which results in its expensive price, ranging from $2000 – $3000 which is a lot for a dog.

Due to differences in size of their parental dogs the natural process of breeding is very risky and dangerous. So they are always bred by artificial breeding methods which is a very expensive process, this is also one of the reason for the expensive price of Pomsky.

History and Origin

Back in 2011, a meme was viral in internet which featured images of Finnish Lapphund puppies, claiming that they were Siberian husky and Pomeranian mixed breed. The whole internet users lost their mind and demand for Pomsky puppies was increasing rapidly. Seeing this demand enterprising breeders quickly made it happened through artificial breeding.

Because of the size difference between Pomeranian and Husky, natural breeding is very risky and dangerous. So breeding through artificial method is the only possible way for giving birth to a Pomsky. For this reason they are very rare in all over the world and are very expensive as well.

Physical Characteristics

Pomsky varies in sizes from small to medium depending upon who’s genetical traits it inherits from its parental breed. Normally they 20-30 pounds in weight and 10-15 inches in height. Their face structure are very similar to its one of the parental breed Siberian Husky. It has a small erected ear with small to medium size eyes.

Their coat type varies from its genetics which can be fluffy like Husky or soft like Pomeranian. They usually have moderate to high shedding coats which can be of any color like Gray and white, black and white, red and white, blue and white, brown, tan which can also be long or short. This usually makes grooming needs to be regular to insure its coat health. Their shedding traits can cause a lot for trouble for your room, couch and clothes if not cleaned regularly.

Temperament and Personality

Pomsky are very cute breeds and are actually friendly, playful, adorable and funny which makes them favorite for most of the pet lovers. Mostly they tend to inherit the vocal behavior of Husky which is chatty howling and whining tendencies along with Pomeranian parent’s penchant for yapping. This traits makes them a very vocally active dogs which might not be favorite thing for every neighbors. They can adapt to any change in surroundings and climate. Pomsky is a very active breed so providing him daily exercise like walking, playing fetch, running etc 30 – 60 mins a day is recommended to ensure its physical and mental strength. Regular exercise is very necessary in order to keep them active mentally and physically.

Pomsky are very high shedding animals which means they require frequent grooming and care. Regularly brushing its coat with soft brush is recommended to ensure its overall coats health and smoothness. Their nails should be trimmed once every few weeks and brushing their teeth daily with high quality brush and paste is recommended as they are very prone to dental health issues. Bathing once every couple of months is required to maintain its health and prevent possible allergies.

  • Elbow dysplasia: This condition is also similar to Hip dysplasia but the difference is that it occurs in elbow joints instead of hip joints.
  • Allergies: They can be victim of several allergies due to various surroundings and food conditions.

If they are not trained at a very young age they can be very stubborn as to its active vocal behavior such as howling which may not be everyone’s favorite. So, training and socializing at young age can prevent possible problems.
